Getting an Interpreter
How to have Sorenson interpret for you
If you would like to use SCIS to interpret for you, call the place where you need an interpreter (your doctor’s office, your work, or others) and tell them that you need an interpreter and would like for them to hire Sorenson. Give them our phone number 800-659-4783 or web address www.scis.com and ask them to contact us. We must talk with the person who will be paying for the interpreting before we can send an interpreter. After you have done that, feel free to call us directly on our videophone at 844-720-1891 to tell us what kind of interpreter you’d like for this appointment.

In most cases, you are entitled to an interpreter at no cost to you under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Often times, businesses do not know that the law requires them to pay for these services and may say that you need to bring your own interpreter.

What if they say ‘no’ and won’t provide an interpreter?
Politely inform the person that under federal law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, they are required to provide an interpreter for you as a disability accommodation. Be firm, but polite.

If they continue to refuse, let us know and we will try to talk to them directly to give them information on what the law requires.

If they still refuse to provide an interpreter, you can contact the following resources:

United States Department of Justice ADA Information Line:
800-514-0301 (P)
